How Does God Love Me?

Atlin Family Church – Online Message

Presented by Dale & Rena Mae McDonald

Good morning and welcome to Atlin Family Church, both locally and online. We are Pastor Dale & Rena Mae McDonald, and we are so glad you’ve joined us today.

Today’s message addresses a question many people ask at some point in their lives:

How does God love me?

Understanding God’s Love

The Christian walk and God’s plan for our lives are much like a puzzle. Over time, each piece comes together to reveal the bigger picture. Deep inside every human heart is a space that only God’s love and presence can fill. Nothing else fits there.

God’s love is not like worldly love. It is completely different. Many people have heard phrases like “God loves you” or “Jesus loves you”, but the real question is:

Do you truly believe it?

Scripture shows us that God’s love is something we can experience, but we cannot fully understand it on our own. We need help. That help comes through the Holy Spirit, who lives within us when we are born again. He gives us the power to understand what is far beyond human ability.

“May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to fully understand.” — Ephesians 3:19

God’s love must first be received by faith in our spirit before it works its way into our mind, will, and emotions. Meditating on God’s Word—thinking about it deeply and repeatedly—helps that understanding grow.

God Loved You From the Beginning

The Creator of the universe loved you from the very beginning. He had a plan for your life long before you were born. He even gave you His own Spirit to live inside you and help you understand what cannot be grasped naturally.

Unfortunately, many people struggle to believe that God truly loves them. Often, this comes from lies that attack our thoughts—accusations, shame, and reminders of past failures. These lies do not come from God. God does not accuse; He loves.

God’s love does not take your past into account.

  • Failed relationships
  • Past mistakes
  • Financial failures
  • Criminal history
  • Missed opportunities

None of these disqualify you from God’s love.

God looks at the heart. He sees who you are becoming, not just who you were.

God’s Love Is a Covenant Love

God’s love is not temporary or disposable. It is covenant love—a lifelong commitment. Unlike many human relationships, God does not walk away when things get difficult.

Even when we fail, God remains faithful.

“Nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 8:38–39

That includes yourself.

Jesus Reveals God’s Love

The clearest expression of God’s love is found in Jesus.

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17 NLT
